Are you ready to make your trip to the “island of volcanoes”? At First Minute Transfer we tell you what excursions to do in Lanzarote during your visit. These are the emblematic places that you cannot miss.

Prepare your trip to the island

If you want to enjoy your trip to Lanzarote to the fullest, we recommend that you decide what you want to see and do before you arrive. In this way you will have your itinerary ready and, if you need to rent a car or hire guided tours, you can do it in time. Especially if you travel in high season.

Lanzarote is close to the African coast, and the best way to get there from the mainland is by plane. Once you arrive, you can choose how to move around the island. Many tourists prefer to rent a car to explore the island at their own pace.

Another alternative is to hire Lanzarote excursions available to take you to the places you want to know. One of the advantages of these tours is that they pick you at your accommodation and everything is organized. So, you just have to prepare to enjoy the ride.

Select where to stay. If you want accommodation in the most touristic areas, remember to make your reservation in advance. In the areas of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise is where there are more options.

The towns, on the other hand, are quieter. So the best place will depend on what you are looking for; if you want to be close to the beach, where there are more visitors, restaurants, and nightlife or others where you can rest more.

What excursions to do in Lanzarote?

You already have part of the trip organized, but what about the tours? What are the places you should visit on the island?

The main attraction in Lanzarote are the volcanoes and the landscape that has caused the eruptions and the passage of time.

Beaches with volcanic sand, cliffs, caves that have been formed by eruptions. In Lanzarote everything, or almost everything, has to do with volcanoes. Even the works of César Manrique were inspired by this phenomenon.

Next, we describe the best excursions in Lanzarote, that will be the chance to get to know the island and its culture in depth. There are alternatives for all types of travellers, whether you go as a couple or visit Lanzarote with children.

Visit the “Route of the volcanoes”

With this name is known the route through the Timanfaya National Park. You will have about an hour to do the bus tour, it is not possible to do it on your own.

The Timanfaya and its lunar landscape is a mandatory stop on the island. You cannot leave without visiting it. Here you will see the craters, geysers and lava formations. The landscape is unique and the experience unforgettable.

Inside the park, you will find the Diablo restaurant, where they cook with the heat that emanates from the earth.

Our recommendation to visit the Timanfaya National Park is to book an excursion in advance. This way you can save hours of waiting at the entrance.

Although it is possible to arrive by car and take a bus at the Visitor Reception Center, the wait can be long.

Discover the route of César Manrique

César Manrique is an icon of the island. This artist left his mark all over Lanzarote, and it is worth knowing his work. You will find excursions dedicated only to this character, thanks to which you will see his most emblematic works.

Among the places where they show the work of César Manrique are:

  • Monument to the peasant: it is located in the geographical centre of the island and is a tribute to the peasants of Lanzarote. It shows the history of agriculture and how they adapted the conditions of the island in their favour.
  • Cactus garden: a beautiful landscape intervened by Manrique and that mixes art with nature, like most of his works. You can tour it as you see fit to enjoy the beauty of the cacti. It is located in Guatiza, Teguise municipality.

  • César Manrique Foundation: the foundation that was built on five volcanic bubbles is located in Tahiche. It is one more example of what Manrique achieved with his art, in which the characteristics of Lanzarote were always the protagonists. It includes a mural made by himself and his private collection of works of art.
  • Manrique House Museum: the construction of this house began in 1986, and he lived there until his death. Here was his workshop, which you will see during the tour.
  • Mirador del Río: another of the places that you cannot miss on your visit to Lanzarote because it offers you one of the best panoramic views of Lanzarote. From here you can see the island of La Graciosa in all its extension.
  • Jameos del Agua: is an architectural work by César Manrique that was built inside a volcanic tube, the same one in which the Cueva de los Verdes is located. It is another of the places that you cannot miss on the island.

Cave of the Greens

Among the guided tours in Lanzarote that you will enjoy is the tour of the Cueva de los Verdes. It is common to visit it on the same day as the Jameos de Agua, since both are within the same volcanic funnel , although they are distanced from each other.

At one time, the cave served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the island when they faced pirate raids.
